If you can pick up a brush, you can be a painter! Since the beginning of time, people have been using brushes and other objects to swirl colored dyes and paints around in order to communicate and be creative. The first "masterpieces" may have been painted on the walls of ancient caves!

This section shows you how to use "brush substitutes" like cotton swabs, rags and even marbles! The first painters used natural dyes and berries to create their own paint You can create your own paint, too, using common items from around the house. Don't forget to prepare your work area before you begin. That means covering the work surface with newspaper; using an old paint shirt to protect your clothes; and having plenty of soap, water and paper towels on hand for cleanup
